Pre Workouts and Thermogenics, what's the difference? They may look the same, they may even sound the same, but take a scoop of each and you'll definitely notice a difference!
Can you take a thermogenic as a pre-workout? Sort of, yeah! Can you take a pre-workout as a thermogenic! Yeah kinda but not really! Confused? Me too. So let's set the record straight.
Pre Workout Supplements vary a tonne from product to product but tend to boil down to the same base ingredients to up the ante when you hit the gym. Most will contain a foundation of Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAA's) and Essential Amino Acids (EAA's), as well as Non-Essential Amino Acids, such as Glutamine, Arginine and Tyrosine. Non-essential doesn't at all mean they're a waste, as these non-essential amino acids contribute to recovery, pump and focus! SOUNDS PRETTY FREAKIN' ESSENTIAL TO ME.
Depending on your brand or product of choice, the ingredients which go beyond this vary far and wide. Most will include creatine of some shape or form to promote strength, along with Nitric Oxide boosters to enhance the illustrious "pump" (for those sweet mirror double-takes) and a cocktail of stimulants, usually based on caffeine, to give you a solid jolt and a sustained buzz.
Thermogenics, on the other hand, are heavier in the stim department and a little lighter on the gains formula. Engineered to induce thermogenesis within the body, these products are designed to boost your metabolic rate, allowing your body to burn more calories and melt away stubborn fat. Most commonly built on a foundation (and higher dose) of Caffeine, Thermogenics will also include an array of natural, herbal and non-stimulant fat burners such as L-Carnitine and Green Tea Extract to enhance fat burning results.
On top of this, a lot of Thermogenics will include "mental support" ingredients to counter the effects of being in a calorie deficit, as well as immune system support, BCAA's and EAA's. Whatever your flavour, these products will make your morning double-shot latte look like child's play!
