We all love seeing our hard work pay off. From training hard and eating clean to building a body we feel confident in, most of us embark on a fitness journey to optimise our health for the long term. Whether your goal is to improve performance, drop body fat, jump higher, sprint faster or simply improve your quality of life, supplementing for optimal health and improved digestion will help dramatically.

It has only been in the last few years that we have really started to fully understand the importance of gut health and the role it plays in determining how effectively our bodies absorb nutrients and how bacteria affect our overall health.

For years, nutrition experts have said “we are what we eat”, however, this is only partially true. The quote should instead state, “we are what we absorb and utilise.” The reality is, we have over 10x the number of bacteria in the stomach then we have human cells in the entire body. Let that sink in for a second.

The sheer abundance of bacteria in our body has an incredible power over how we absorb and utilise the nutrition we consume, which is why it’s important to maintain a healthy ratio of bacteria in the gut. From hormonal imbalances, slow thyroid function and increased cravings to fluctuating moods, poor sleep quality and a reduced sex drive, the symptoms caused by poor gut health go well beyond our bodies inability to effectively break down food and absorb its nutrients.

In fact, recent studies have shown that the gut microbiome can determine weight. During a series of examinations using rats as test subjects, they transported healthy gut bacteria from healthy rats and inserted it into overweight rats, which resulted in the overweight rats losing fat rapidly. They then repeated the study by inserting gut bacteria from the overweight rats into the healthy rats, whereby they gained fat.

Whether you’re a gym fanatic or are simply focused on improving your overall well-being, maintaining optimum gut health is vital for maximising your results.

So, how do we improve gut health?

Quality nutrition is always the first step towards optimising health. Truth be told, no amount of supplementation is going to overcome a poor diet. If you are reading this blog and are already part of the ASN community, it’s a fair bet that your nutrition is already quite good.

Once your nutrition is on point, the next best thing you can implement into your diet is fermented foods – including kimchi, kefir, and kombucha. The problem with these nutritionally-dense foods is that they often taste like rubbish, can be relatively hard to source or expensive to buy, and time-consuming should you choose to make them yourself.

The solution?

It’s simple - Implement the BSc kombucha tablets into your daily supplementation routine. This is something I recommend to all of my athletes and I highly encourage you to do the same.

The BSc Kombucha Capsules are like a live superfood packed with B Vitamins, antioxidants, and beneficial cultures (bacteria) to drastically improve the population of healthy bacteria throughout the gastrointestinal tract. Incorporating just two capsules of the BSc kombucha caps per day will greatly improve the processes of digestion and absorption, help fight bad bacteria and aid in general immune function and wellness.

One of the down-sides to typical kombucha drinks is that they can contain considerable amounts of sugar and often have a low amount of caffeine and alcohol. Two capsules of the Body Science Kombucha Capsules have only 0.1g of sugar with no alcohol or caffeine, meaning they can be taken at night if preferred, and are the equivalent of 30 kombucha drinks (using acetic acid as a comparative measure).

If optimising your health and digestion is a priority to you, make sure you head into your local ASN store to chat to their awesome team about how you can best incorporate the Kombucha Capsules into your daily routine.
