"Don't die wondering!"
Overview (A Little About Me)
38 year old member of the Royal Australian Air Force, been doing it now for 19 years.
Have lived in Adelaide, Wagga, East Gipsland and Newcastle. I Love Newcastle, it's weather beaches and great people that make up the town. Got in to cycling again in 2003 after a long lay off. I was overweight, unfit and in desperate need of a life make over. I started cycling, got posted to Newcastle and have been working away at myself ever since.
Interests
Massage, cycling, Yoga (when time permits)
Favourites (Food, Bodyparts, People)
FOOD: Love Thai and Indian food.
BODY PART: Heart you need one to succeed
PEOPLE: Cadel Evans, Phil Anderson and go the mighty Ranga Stuey O'grady.
Motivations (What Motivates Me)
Strive to better myself and I love to ride my bike!
Training History (Years, Location, Trainer)
I used to do triathlons back in the mid nineties, then fell by the wayside. Got back into it in 2003. I train myself but get some really good advice from some of the great coaches in the local area (Glen Lewis, Mick Chapman)
Training Schedule (Training Style and Tips)
I do a lot of interval work as I find I get good results with it. Longer intervals at the beginning of the season trying to build the engine. Then as peak race season hits I shorten them and up the intensity. I do a lot of work on my Ergo bike as I can concentrate on going hard and getting intensity levels required rather than dodging traffic!
My main tip would be to TRAIN HARD, but rest properly aswell. You get your gains when you are resting. If you don't recover fully before your next effort, you wont be able to go any faster.
Nutrition (Examples of My Diet)
Eat Good food. Get your carbs in when you want to train intensly, otherwise wont recover. Creatine is awesome for recovery and plenty of protein to fix up the damage you are doing to yourself.
Competition History
I am the current Australian Defence Organisation Road Cycling Champion and Individual Time Trial Champion in 2006 taking the silver medal in the 2008 Defence Titles and Gold medalist in the criterium, 2005 + 2006 Air Force Endurance Mountain bike champion. Gold medal at the 2007 Pan Pacific Master's Games in the Individual Time Trial and Criterium for the 35 - 40 age category. 1st Gunnedah - Tamworth Div 3 State Open Road race. 1st Kooragang Vets A grade State Open.
Goals (Future Plans and Career Expectations)
Make the Final for the State Veterans Cycling 3km Individual Pursuit. Try to medal in the Veterans 30 km Points race in 2008. Medal at the ARAFURA Games in Darwin in May 2008. Then do well at the Master World games and the UCI World Veterans Track Titles.
Media Coverage (Calendars, Magazines and Newspapers)
Back cover of the Air Force News twice as Air Force and Defence Road and Mountain Bike Champion.
Best Advice (Fitness, Health and Training)
Ride because you want to. Train because you want to. Ride fairly and honestly, so at the end of the day you can look in the mirror and say 'hey I did my best'.
