"Maximal Failure + 1" Overview (A Little About Me)Hey I'm Skye! - ASN Team Member, Sponsored Athlete, Personal Trainer and Fitness Model. I've been training since I was 16 and began bodybuilding competition last year when I won the u70kg ANB Victorian title. I've always been particularly interested in the science behind sports nutrition, and ASN has now given me the opportunity to share my knowledge with others. Supplementation will play a major role in helping you reach your fitness goals, but like anything it must be done correctly. Come see me in our Richmond store and I'll put you on the right track! InterestsNatural Bodybuilding takes up a lot of my time, and people often comment on how difficult and labouring the training must be. I've got to say I've never found the training to be a chore, simply because I love what I do. Music keeps me sane, as do my fantastic family and friends. I also seem to enjoy accumulating parking fines. (Thanks for covering for me Dad; I'll pay you back one day I promise!) Favourites (Food, Bodyparts, People)Food I crave... there is a little Thai place near where I live that makes the BEST chicken pad thai in Melbourne, Thai Deli. An elaborate seafood buffet would come a close second...
Music I love... John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Warren Barfield, Robin Thicke, Deadmau5, Roachford, Daft Punk, Air, Dire Straits, Paul Simon, Sia, Foo Fighters, Tracy Chapman, Imogen Heap, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Orbital, Everything But The Girl, Chicane, James Morrison, Coldplay, Silverchair, Nobuo Uematsu, Josh Kelley, Hybrid...... to name just a few
People I admire... Mum & Dad, Haile Gebrselassie, Ricky Gervais, Lee Labrada, Usain Bolt, Michael Jordan, Albert Einstein, Eckhart Tolle, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 4, John Rambo, my Nan.
Motivations (What Motivates Me)Simply being alive motivates me. No matter what I'm doing, just to be present in the moment is what I thrive on, it's a gift.
In todays world it's so easy to be consumed by the daily tasks and routines we are conditioned to perform. But every now and then, make a conscious effort to pause what you're doing to simply take in the surroundings of that very moment... Indulge your senses. What do you hear? Smell? Feel? Listen to the world, and the world will listen to you.
Training Schedule (Training Style and Tips)I only ever train a single muscle group at a time. I enjoy being able to physically exhaust myself without the need to back up say a chest workout with a tricep routine. I'd prefer to smash my chest to the point where I can't see straight, then come back for triceps tomorrow. I split my muscle groups as follows:
(not necessarily in this order)
-Chest
-Biceps
-Legs
-Shoulders
-Triceps
-Back
I describe my weight training regime as nomadic, as I always try to change things up with the exercises I do and will rarely perform the same workout for 2 consecutive weeks. The human body is such an adaptive machine, so periodically shocking your body with a variety of new exercises is the key to growth, never get too comfortable. The only thing that's consistent about my workouts is the intensity. Whether I'm pushing heavy weights for 6 reps, or lighter weights for 20 reps, the intensity is always there.
Cardio Schedule
Cardio before breakfast is a given for anyone who is serious about shedding body fat.
My pre-comp cardio consists of a high-intensity interval (H.I.I.T) walk or cycle for no more than 15mins. (I may do more if I'm getting desperate!)
Nutrition (Examples of My Diet)Off-season I make a point to eat anything I want. It's so important to have a healthy balanced lifestyle, so I'm allowed to indulge from time to time... If I didn't, I think I'd go a little crazy, and that certainly wouldn't be healthy!
"Diet's" rarely work because they always come to an end, and then what happens? You have a celebratory pig out and in most cases end up worse than when you started!
Moderation is the key.
If you want to enjoy something yummy, go for it. Just don't overdo it. If you ate a few Tim Tams last night why not take the stairs today? Proactive counter-measures like this will help you stay in shape without upsetting your tastebuds. It's kind of like off-setting carbon emissions, but for your body.
