Overview (A Little About Me)Well, where to start. My name is Dane Baldwin, I’m 19 years old, and I have been overweight as far back as I can remember. The story you are about to hear is one of my journey, nay my personal mission to lose all of my excess fat and gain a healthy physique.
My heaviest weight was around 150kgs, this was when I came back from living at college in Brisbane. How did I get this heavy you may ask? It has to do with the lifestyle of a university student living on campus at a college. This lifestyle would generally consist of going out most nights, getting quite drunk and eating large amounts of fast food. The food in our dining hall wasn’t of the best quality around and as such my friends and I would make frequent trips to various fast food stores for our lunch/dinner instead.
At 150kgs you could only imagine how hard it was to do simple activities; even walking up to university for my lectures was a daunting task. My physical appearance was a disgrace. I had no energy. I was depressed. I even stopped going out with my friends to clubs because I was that ashamed of what I had become.
Anyway, after the year of university had finished we all had to move back home until the next semester started. I decided to defer my university course for 6 months to work. Back home was no different to my life at college. I still ate terribly and got next to no exercise. On top of that I started getting pains in my chest, which anyone with half a brain knows is not a good sign. I was on the path to an early grave. It was then that I took a long hard look at myself in the mirror and decided to do something about my weight.
I took to the internet. I became a sponge of information. I read everything I could on the subject of fat loss. I attempted to put this new information I had learned into practice and started losing weight for a while, until I hit a plateau I could not break. At this point I was around 140kgs. Then I came across a website for a supplement shop that was pretty close to me; the Australian Sports Nutrition (ASN) website. After browsing the site for a while I decided to take a trip to the store closest to me at Mermaid beach. This is where I met Mick Galley and Matthew Simpson.
Walking into the shop for the first time was a scary thing to do; scary because I was afraid of being judged for what I was. But to my surprise the guys were not judging at all. I spoke to them about what I had been doing previous such as fasted morning cardio, lifting weights and eating six small meals a day. They listened to my goals and gave me some very useful advice on what supplements to purchase, what my meals should consist of and what the duration and intensity of my cardio and weight lifting workouts should be.
It was after my first visit to ASN that I embarked upon my painstaking journey of blood sweat and tears to lose every gram of excess fat on my body and become a better, healthier person both on the inside and out. At the time of writing this I am currently 111.2kgs, and plan to lose another 20kgs. I will keep you all posted with pictures and updates on the ASN website. I am not going to lie to you. It is hard work. Never let anyone ever tell you any different. You are not going to get results overnight. It is crucial to set goals for yourself, both short term and long term. Getting motivated to take the first step, and continue is half the battle. And most importantly, nobody can do this for you, it is all up to you.
