Overview (A Little About Me)
Hi! Welcome to my athlete profile! Here you'll read about my background, my training style, my daily diet, my goals, what motivates me, my fitness modelling history and more!
I've been with Australian Sports Nutrition for 5+ years now. I started by helping Simon open the Newcastle store.
Simon & I are now based on the Gold Coast but we still travel frequently between the stores.
My role at ASN is to ensure our amazing website 'stays' amazing with inspiring profiles, updated products, monthly newsletter etc etc... I handle the marketing side of things & also handle the allocation of the zillions of online web orders we get daily.
Apart from Simon, my husband whom started ASN, I've been with ASN for the longest time...so its pretty fair to say I've worked in & on every aspect of our business and I'm the 'jack of all trades'.
Before being with ASN I was a Port Shopping Lecturer dealing with the luxury goods industry working on Cruise Ships sailing the Caribbean & Alaskan waters for 5 years.
Have I always been into Health & Fitness & Supplements?... No... That didn't happen until I met Simon 5+ years ago. I was always into healthy foods and a healthy lifestyle but I wasn't aware of the world of supplements... now I'm hooked!! And I don't know how I used to cope without using Supplements in my life!
Interests
I'm very much a 'homebody' type person. I love being at home pottering around, cooking, watching tv, playing with our dog Baxter and of course being online 24/7 to chat with ASN customers & to update our website!
I love shopping, but not for expensive things..a good bargain gives me a great buzz!
I really enjoy grocery/food shopping, as I love food (haha) and I love checking out new products and putting together ingredients for new dishes.
I absolutely ADORE the Health & Fitness industry! Simon & I live, sleep & breathe ASN & everything it involves
I like to enjoy a nice glass of red wine & vintage cheeses all while relaxing in my pj's!
Favourites (Food, Bodyparts, People)
Mmm... Chocolates...
I'm not a saint! My willpower is terrible....I LOVE Cadbury's chocolate & I certainly give into temptation.. often.. haha!! Life would be too dull if you couldn't enjoy sweets!
This year I've tried to personally stop naming things "Bad" & "Good" foods, as I felt it was making me feel too guilty when I did enjoy bad foods(eg: chocolates, sweets, biscuits)..I would beat myself up over it, which is silly and I can admit that as I know many of us out there do this daily. And after a great conversation with Bev Oliver (http://www.feelinggreatenergy.com) she shed light on the fact I was doing this. We all have body issue hang-ups, and I think we can all be too hard on ourselves, so I'm doing my best to change my thinking pattern. As I do eat very healthy most of the time I feel its OK to enjoy foods that aren't always good for you....so go ahead and enjoy those Tim Tam's.. just make sure you go for a walk to burn it off if you over-indulge....:) :)
Motivations (What Motivates Me)
Looking at toned/tight physiques! Yes, I do read all the fitness magazines cover to cover and lust over ripped ab's and nice capped shoulders... ;-)
Training History (Years, Location, Trainer)
As a child I was a healthy body shape/weight. I was very active horseriding, running, playing with the kids in my street etc.
After highschool I did go thru some weight fluctuations which were natural considering my body was changing with hormones etc. I was probably around 55kg when I was 18 onwards...when I was 19yrs I went to work at a Summer Camp in the USA and I had great fun in eating alot of the fattening american food they would serve me at Camp...pancakes, waffles, sweets..you name it!! I was a Golf Instructor at the Camp, and even though I had never taught Golf before, go figure..I still wasnt active enough to burn up all the calories I was consuming! I came home at about 60-62kgs which for me was rather solid...with plenty of puppy fat. I did look healthy....my round face has such a glow..haha..but definitly had been enjoying too much of that American food.
My weight through my early 20's was always around the 55kg mark, although after years of working on cruise liners in the Caribean starting from age 21yr, my weight did go from skinny to a bit chubby..then normal..then a bit chubby...It did this from 21yrs to 25yrs of age...once again, poor dietary choices from working overseas...and the fact that I did NO TRAINING!! Never stepped foot in a gym..didnt even know anything much about weights until I met Simon when I was 25/26yrs
In 2006-2007 when I was about 26/27yrs old I had started to rapidly loose weight & become quite skinny..being 44kgs at my lowest weight...shocking let me tell you!! I got so many comments about being so skinny it was embarassing!! I finally found out, that I was loosing weight & not able to gain any fat or muscle as I had a very active Thyroid..."Hyperthyroidism".
One of the symptoms was my body's metabolism was on overdrive so I was burning up everything I ate & I was super-skinny. Skinny may be good for some, but for me I wasn't happy... I looked sick and people were thinking I had an eating disorder! My over-active Thyroid was making me feel incredibly 'racey' and I could eat & eat and wouldn't put on a single kilo...(I know there are some reading thinking "Doesnt sound so bad!! Having a disorder than burns fat.."..but trust me, it's not fun.. I wasnt healthy at all & I felt so terrible)
My goal was to pack on more muscle so that I could look healthy & get m body back in an even state- which now I'm doing and my body looks better now that it did when I was in my early 20's...why??..because I am WEIGHT TRAINING now when I never did in my early 20's...weights sculpt you & give your body that shapely look. :))
Training Schedule (Training Style and Tips)
I find my 2x intense weight sessions with my Personal Trainer, Leah Ryan (& whatever other strength training I can fit in) and my daily walks are enough for me per week. Mind you, my husband (Simon/ASN Owner) IS a training freak! He trains 6-7 days a week and sometimes 2 or even 3 session in one day! Eeek! I applaud his commitment, but realistically, we cant or don't all want to make the time to do that... Lol..
When it comes to training, I think I can offer sound & realistic advice to you...as I speak from an 'every day person' point of view.
To get the best results I have a personal trainer. I'm very lucky to have Leah Ryan, owner of Industry Gym on the Gold Cost to be my personal trainer. (You can view Leah's profile on our website)...
I do 2x Weight Training sessions a week with Leah.
Each set I do 12-15reps and 3x sets of each exercise.
I train as hard as I can without adding too much extra strain on my existing shoulder/neck injury.
I thoroughly enjoy my weight training sessions!! When I'm at the gym I'm not there to muck around! My goal in there is to build muscle. There is nothing better for a women to have a tight, toned physique.
I also do a min of 3-4 cardio sessions a week for approx 45mins. If I'm busy I will do a 20-30min walk before breakfast and another 20-30min walk before dinner.
I'm not into cardio machines at the Gym... Nothing beats walking outside for me!

Nutrition (Examples of My Diet)
I do eat very healthy - I've always loved anything that's healthy.. especially huge salad's. Of course I do love all types of foods, which include chips, chocolate, cupcakes etc... that time of the month can bring on huge sweet & savoury cravings for me!!
***Example of what I eat during a regular day:
Breakfast:
2x pieces of Burgen Rye toasted with decent layer of Avocado on it & fresh black pepper.
OR/
Same as above but with Weight Watchers Baked Beans on top of the avocado..yum!
OR/
1x piece of grainy toast with 2egg whites & 1 yolk + mushrooms
OR/
Egg white pancake.
(5 egg whites, 1/4 cup oats, cinnamon, pinch of brown sugar, half a handful of blueberry's cooked up in a pancake..yumm.
Mid Morning:
Tin of Tuna, Protein shake with water.
OR/
Handful of walnuts & a Evolve "Diva Whey" protein shake.
Lunch: 2 corn-thin cakes with avocado, tinned salmon or tuna with sweet chili sauce on top.
OR/
Chicken tenderloins with steamed vegetables
OR/
Steamed fish with steamed vegetables
OR/
Turkey & salad wrap
OR/
tinned tuna with steamed rice & veggies & crushed cashew nuts.
Mid Afternoon:
Evolve 'Diva Whey' Protein Shake with water &
tinned tuna/salmon with corn/rice cakes
OR/
Protein Bar
Dinner:
MASSIVE bowl of salad!
Steamed fish with steamed vegetables
OR/
Chicken with vegetables
OR/
Piece of steak & salad
Desert:
Yogurt (I prefer Natural yoghurt that ISNT diet, as the DIET ones can be filled with sweeteners and they make my tummy bloat.)
OR/
Half a cup of Low fat/carb ice cream with frozen raspberry's
Before Bed:
Evolve 'Nocturnal' Protein Shake with water
I actually love tinned tuna & salmon which I often have straight from the tin or on Bakers Delight 'Cape Seed Loaf' or Corn Thin cakes for lunch.
I am a big eater..my body needs food to function.. and if I don't eat every 2-3hrs, I get quite grumpy, tired & I can't concentrate. Some people may confuse these symptoms as "I need a coffee or sugar-fix"..but I know I need something to eat & a more water!
Speaking of water....it is so crucial to consume plenty of water!! Having plenty of water really does keep your energy levels up & your skin more clear & plump. I always have a big bottle of water next to my computer so I can drink out of it through the day.
Competition History
I haven't competed in any Bodybuilding comps. You are more likely to find me watching a comp, working at a comp or helping to promote the bodybuilding competition industry.
I fully support all competitors out there and I take my hat off to you!!
Goals (Future Plans and Career Expectations)
Do you know what my motivation for training is? Do you want to know why I've been trying to work on my core..and overall body conditioning.. as we are trying to have a baby! Yes, that's right! Simon & I have been trying for a baby for some time now.. and I want to be in the most healthy shape Physically AND Mentally when I fall pregnant. It will help with a better pregnancy, my strong core will help push the little Rees out..and of course the healthier and better shape I'm in before I'm pregnant will aid in a better post baby body! Hooray! (But with all this said, you can tell by looking at my pics that I'm not a hardcore training addict, so I'm not going to any extremes to be fit just to fall pregnant, as I know being lean, training too hard can stop you from falling pregnant. I'm being sensible and trying to allign up all aspects so I am in a perfect baby-making state).

Media Coverage (Calendars, Magazines and Newspapers)
My first fitness modelling work was with Katy for the Ironman 2005/06 Wet & Wild Calendar. I applied to Blitz Publications with some "happy snaps" one which included a shot with Simon.
Blitz Publications liked the look of Simon & I together and we were offered to be shot for cover of Ironman during the Wet & Wild Calendar shoot.
We were successful in being on the August 2005 Ironman cover & Ironman did a full page story on Simon & me. What an achievement for mine and Simons first shoot!
Katy & I were also shot for the sexy Pumped Up Down Under Calendar 2005/06 which was done in Melbourne on a freezing day in an abandoned building. Tony Ryan was the photographer & he produced some beautiful shots of both Katy & I.
Australian company Body Science (BSc) saw our shots from Pumped Up Down Under and used images of both Katy & I in their National advertising campaign having us plastered over Health shop walls & in various magazines Australia wide! The ads from this campaign are in my ASN profile.
To date, my photos continue to be in many print/web advertisements for ASN and our sister company's.... my Mum is very proud....;-)
Best Advice (Fitness, Health and Training)
Eat, Eat, Eat!! So many people have poor diets/eating patterns & they don't realise how crucial the lack of good foods can be to your success. If I don't eat I can NOT function!! This isn't license to pig-out, lol...CONTACT US if you are unsure..we not only help with Supplements but we can write you a diet plan too!!
Women - don't be afraid of weight training!!! You wont bulk up and look like a guy! Get off the treadmill and wander over to the weights section of your gym... If you are scared get a personal trainer to help familiarise yourself with the different weight machines and free-weight exercises. Weight training will do you mind and your body wonders!!!!
Since I've been weight training I've never felt better... it's a total mood booster and I'm really enjoying watching my whole body change it's shape!! I can be having the WORST day or feel so crappy but when I go train with my trainer Leah Ryan I feel invigorated, relaxed, happy, calmer & so proud of myself!!!
Supplements Used
Simon & I's cupboard is a mini version of our shops - we have all sorts of creatine's, vitamins protein powders, etc.
I love trying out and testing everything!! I don't know what I did before being introduced to supplements by Simon - I totally could not live with out supplements!!
See below for the supplements I am currently taking....I do actually use these supplements daily & its not like I'm recommending them because I have to or it makes money.. I'm too honest to bullsh*t about this kind of stuff!!
I've tried just about every fat burner out there.. so if you have a fat burning question... hit me up!
I know there are so many supplements out there - it can be confusing! So email me if you have any questions.....
And I know you may think I'm biased as I'm an owner of the company but I promise you I will give you my HONEST opinion.... kerrie@asn.com.au
xoxo
