"ASN does not go where the path leads
us....Instead we create a new path for others to
follow!"
Overview (A Little About Me)
I was born and raised in Newcastle, NSW and had a very sport- orientated childhood. You could often find me playing soccer, swimming and involving myself with the local Surf Club. As a youngster growing up I was always on the skinnier side and decided to start training in my late teens, firstly as a hobby and then for competition. I have always been very business orientated and after my first comp decided competing wasn't a main priority to me, however my love of fitness meant that I have continued to train weights & cardio 5-6 days a week.
Due to my passion of the fitness industry I decided in 2002, to start Australian Sports Nutrition. At the time ASN was an additional business venture as I was also the manager of a Building Manufacturing Company, the owner/operator of an O'Porto's Restaurant and was also into Property Development. As you can tell my main focus over those years was to be successful and make the big $$$.
Over the years, as ASN has grown and my desire to be in the field I'm passionate about has developed, all my attention these days in on ASN. My motto in life is 'Success is made by focusing on your own goals, not the competitors around you'. Since ASN's beginning in 2002, ASN has gone from a one-shop, one-person operation, to now the fastest growing Health & Supplements Company that is a force to be reckoned with!!!
Motivations (What Motivates Me)
For the past 25 years I've been strength/bodybuilding training, which has always been 6-7days a week. You could count the weeks I've had off in the last 25yrs on one hand. I've always had an obsessive personality & taken my training, diet & supplementation to the extreme level. I apply that same "obsessive personality"/ set of principles to running my company, ASN.
I've never had an "off-season" & my goal has always been to be in peak condition all year round (never be more than '3 weeks off my peak" - is my personal motto.
Training History (Years, Location, Trainer)
I started training weights at 17years of age at the local Surf Club gym. My weight at the time was 65kg. I got into the gym to build strength and confidence in my sporting activities. After around 5 years of weight training I increased my overall mass by about 10kg, which was a feat in itself as I continued to play sport all through those years.
At the age of 28 I had an accident which left me with a severely broken leg and was unable to return to soccer. From that point onwards I focused my training on strength and power- training which led me to compete in my first (and only) body building comp. I ended up weighing in at 79kg and took out first place in the Novice Division. To add to my current resume of sporting activities, I've also recently taken up Arakan, a form of Martial Arts, which has helped with my level of fitness and flexibility.
In the last 7years, my training has matured and to balance things out I started "Arakan" Mixed Martial Arts 3 times a week...which has now built up to 6-7 sessions a week. I've also started combining extra high intensity cardio. Stair Sprints, Interval Training etc. .. to enhance myself for Fight Training. Which has lead me to in the last few years to re-invenet my fitness & training ideals. I've become a much more balanced & functional athlete and without sounding too cliche I've become, "Fitter, Meaner, Faster & Stronger."
The last 3years, has seen a massive transformation in my training regime and taking all the laws of 'overtraining' out of the equation has lead me to as follows:
Training Schedule (Training Style and Tips)
Below is an example of my training schedule. I'm addicted to training and living a healthy lifestyle (with a relatively strict diet) and apart from a 2wk break due to an illness in Dec 2010, I haven't had a break in training in nearly 20 years.
-Arakan Mixed Marital Arts; 6-7 1hr sessions per week
-Gym/Weights - High Reps/ High Intensity training. 1x body part per day..maximum muscle exhaustion. 7 sessions a week.
Tips:
Learn what is best for YOUR body through trial & error and gaining advice from the right people. This will help you find out what's best for you in regards to training, diet & supplementation. With determination and consistency you will achieve your goals!
For muscle building - keep your sessions hard & intense and always push until failure.
Goals (Future Plans and Career Expectations)
In a nutshell i now find myself in my early 40's and with more drive determination and committment to train and push myself harder than ever before in every aspect of my life. To be able to train consistently at this level of intensity it is crucial that my diet and supplementation programme is tailor made to cater for it , My Marital Arts has turned me into a fit balance athlete, and has made me a tougher person mentally & physicly. I run my company, ASN, with the same intensisty, passion and determination. ASN has always been a reflection of who i am in my personality.
In business and training you always need to adapt and re-invent yourself, if you fail to change and adapt you will become obseliete and instinct... "Only The Strong Shall Survive". These are not cliche sayings for me, these are standards I live my life by.
