Sports and Endurance Training

Whether you enjoy fun run's, triathlons, marathons, iron man races or long distance cycling, one theme that is common amongst these types of exercise is the word - endurance. This term mainly applies to any sport, where participants are involved in consistent activity for more then one hour.

Ultimately, endurance athletes often require the most nutritional supplementation out of everyone, to help them cope with the extreme demands they put on their bodies.

To keep their bodies performing optimally, endurance athletes should be familiar with 10 important nutrients.

The first seven essential vitamin and minerals are calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, selenium, sodium and zinc of which their benefits range from keeping bones strong to minimizing fatigue. The other three supplements are essential for muscle development and repair, which are; protein, l-glutamine and vitamin E, also broadly used across the fitness industry in other sporting arena's.

Optimal nutritional support for endurance athletics means consuming the right amount of nutrients at the right time. You cannot overload or undersupply your body, without it compromising your athletic performance and in some cases incurring adverse results.

Performance improvement depends on the right exercise program- to stimulate adaptation, followed by a recovery period in which the body rebuilds itself slightly better than before.

The real gains in exercise occur in the recovery phase with adequate rest, supplementation and nutritional support. Athletes who fail to replenish carbohydrates and protein immediately after workouts will never be able to obtain full value from their training efforts.
