What To Know About The Flu:
While most people know what it feels like to have the flu, they may not fully understand what the flu is and how it is passed from one person to another. A little information about the flu can go a long way towards preventing it:
* According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention:
1. Influenza is a respiratory illness that is caused by flu viruses.
2. Flu symptoms usually start to appear one to four days after the virus gets into your body.
3. The flu is contagious and can be transferred to someone else one day before symptoms occur and up to five days after getting sick.
4. The flu virus is spread mainly through respiratory droplets of coughs and sneezes.
5. Symptoms of the flu include sore throat, high fever, headaches, cough, muscle pains, and lethargy.
6. The flu can cause added medical complications for people in "High Risk" groups, such as the elderly and children.
7. Different strains of the flu emerge each year, meaning that flu vaccines must be altered yearly.
INSTRUCTIONS / TOP TIPS:
TIP 1#
Get into the swing of the cold winter months and keep that nasty flu bug where it belongs---safely tucked away for a long winter's nap. Get plenty of fresh air this cold weather season. Don't stay inside all winter long absorbing those nasty germs floating through the air. Go for long walks on decent days.
TIP 2#
Wash your hands frequently. This keeps nasty germs off your hands. This will keep you germ free when you touch your face. Germs live everywhere such as doorhandles, desktops, computer mouses, when you shake other people's hands.
TIP 3#
Carry antibacterial soap everywhere you go. Use it frequently during the day to keep those germs at bay. At work ask the boss to place antibacterial soap in the bathrooms.
TIP 4#
Eat plenty of healthy foods during flu season. This way your body will be ready to fight this virus. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables that contain vitamins. You will need vitamins A, C and E during this time. Take a vitamin supplement, and drink orange, or low sodium tomato juice.
TIP 5#
Exercise during flu season. Make certain that you exercise all year long, but during this time it is very important. Keeping healthy will help your body fight the flu virus. Being healthy will give you a better chance of not getting the flu in the first place. Work out at least 30 minutes five days a week.
TIP 6#
Get plenty of sleep. Seven to eight hours of sleep is what your body needs to maintain proper health. This gives your body a chance to revitalise every night. It also gives your body the time to renew those overworked cells.
