Arakan training enhanced by Sports Supplement recovery . . .
By Andrew Stone, V8 Supercar Manager
I am a 27 years old, Events Manager for V8 Supercars Australia. A few years ago I felt that I needed to become more physically active and mentally healthier. Not wanting to train only weights and the normal style cardio I found a sport suited to not only my fitness goals, but also my mindset for learning new things and gaining more confidence. This was Gold Coast-based Arakan Martial Art®. Over the last few years of training Arakan I have become very fit and also extremely focused on setting out and achieving my goals. It has become a lifestyle rather than just a set of fitness and defence training sessions and the community spirit that the club emanates is phenomenal.
Last month on August 23, Arakan held an event called URBAN WARRIOR where 70 students and 13 instructors were involved in a full-day seminar based around learning awareness, Arakan skills and techniques. The aim of this seminar was to travel around our local area and train for 2 hours over 4 modules putting ourselves in real life situations, such as Road Rage, Home Invasion, Bar Fights & Muggings. Let me tell you- these situations were so close to real life that the majority of us walked away very sore, somewhat bruised a little battered. Not that ANY of that mattered as by the end of the day, the skills that I had learnt no doubt could definitely save my life and or that of my family and friends in serious situations.
Obviously 8 hours of training and driving is incredibly demanding both mentally & physically. Recovery is so important for Arakan (not only from the bruises) but more so from the internal stress we put our body’s under when training and learning. My recovery from this seminar and from all of my training for the last 6 months has increased dramatically. I recently had a grading which I trained extremely hard for over several lessons per week. In the past my recovery was slow and I was often left tired, but for some reason the harder I trained the better my recovery and back-up for the next day’s session was! Hard to believe but the only thing I have changed since I started training in the last few years is my supplementation.
These days I take the latest Australian Sports Nutrition supplements that the team there put me on, such as Anabolic Window and Scivation Xtend. It’s such a cliché but people would always say to me that you needed protein and carbs for muscle recovery after training. I thought this usually applied to just weights, but now I know better. The Anabolic Window is such a complete product that it helps me recover almost overnight which I need, especially since I’m training at least 3x per week sometimes straight after a session the day before. The Xtend is also great for energy and muscle repair as the straight amino’s in them are absorbed so quickly. I have always trained hard, but now I can train twice as hard for twice as long because my post-training products give me the nutrition I need to recover 110%.
I'd like to thank ASN not only for their helpful advice, but also putting me on the best supplements for my activity as it has just enhanced by endurnace abilities and my overall recovery on a daily basis.
